James R. Hake, 77, of Greensburg, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 22, 1931, in Carbon, a son of the late Luther and Rachel (Hixson) Hake. Prior to retirement, he had been a school teacher for 30 years in the Norwin School District. He attended Harrold's Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg, and was a past Sunday school superintendent and teacher at the former Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Southwest Greensburg. He was a member of VFW Post 33, Greensburg, the Youngwood Sportsmen's Club; was an Army veteran of the Korean War; and a graduate of California State Teachers College and Carnegie Institute of Technology. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Harvey Hake; a sister, Florence Hake; two sisters-in-law, Laura Hake and Marge Hake; and a brother-in-law, Blaine Brinkley. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia J. (Brinker) Hake; a daughter, Traci Leigh Daugherty, and a granddaughter, Rachel, both of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; a brother, Calvin Hake, of Greensburg; two sisters, Frances Jardanhazy and her husband, William, of North Huntingdon, and Ruth Brinkley, of Washington state; a brother-in-law, Barry K. Brinker and his wife, JoAnn, of New Alexandria; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Hake, of Greensburg, and Beverly Phar and her husband, Herbert, of Latrobe; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert A. Free officiating. Private interment in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township
