THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 07, 2002: ‘Mary Frances Wakefield, 90, of Paris was called home to meet her Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at the Paris Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Cannon officiating. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. She was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Paris, a daughter of Oscar and Mattie Bell Howard. She attended Paris Schools and was employed by Ayres Department Store from February 1957 to the closing of the store in September of 1986. She served her Lord in the primary department of First Baptist Church for over 45 years. She married John F. Wakefield June 27, 1937, in Paris. He preceded her in death June 24, 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Parker and husband, Marion, of Paris and Nancy Williams and husband, Wayne, of St. Jo; four grandchildren, Kim Merritt and Cindy Cope of Paris, Mark Williams of Denver City and John Williams of Odessa; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jeff Merritt, Jason Merritt, Michael Merritt, Mark Williams, Kim Ledbetter and Reggie Cope.’
