THE PARIS NEWS, 4 Jan 1956: ‘G. S. (Slick) Howard, 54, longtime Paris bands director, died Friday night in a Dallas hospital, where he had undergone surgery Monday. He had lived in Dallas the past several years at 1934 Lansford, being employed by the Ward Drug Company. The funeral, Monday at 2 p.m. will be held at Fry and Gibbs chapel by the Rev. Robert Richardson of Central Presbyterian Church here, of which Mr. Howard was a member. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Born in Paris in Sep, 1902, George Schleyer Howard was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Howard, his father being a veteran railroad conductor. He attended Graham School and Paris High School, and was director of both the Paris Municipal Band and the high school band here a number of years. He was employed at R. J. Murphy Drug Store before moving to Dallas. He leaves three children, Joe S. Howard, Dallas; Mrs. Howard Sansone and Mrs. Anthony Gagliardi, both of Yonkers, N.Y.; three grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: Hal Dean Howard, Dallas; Elwyn Howard, Tulsa, Okla.; Gordon Howard, Monett Mo.; Earl Howard, Fayetteville, Ark.; Jack Howard, Mrs. Mary Wakefield (John) and Mrs. Margaret Moye (Dan), all of Paris.’ Tombstone is inscribed, ‘George S. Howard.’
