Doris was the Mother of Carolyn Long Schmid, Cathy Long Schauffler & Spencer Long, Jr. She loved her children by marriage, Jim Schmid and Rich Schauffler. For most of her life, she was a housewife. She was a great Texas cook and had a wonderful singing voice. She cared for her parents in their later years with great care and tenderness and she was a loving, kind, wonderful mother and grandmother despite coping with illnesses late in life. Her grandchildren are Caroline R.E. Schmid, Paul M. Ward (1981-2018), Sarah Randell (nee Long), Ellen Long, Cori Schauffler, Kyle Schauffler, and Lauren Schauffler. She has 5 great granchildren whom she did not meet, but would have adored. They are Taylor Ward, Joshua Ward, Ayden Randell, Landyn Randell, and Liam Spencer Hilkowski.
Doris had one brother, Dr. Alexander L. Pickens II (1921-2012)and 1 brother in law, Robert Milton Long (1918-1968) and 2 sisters in law, Frances Jenkins Pickens (1927-2017) and Joyce Reynolds Long (1923-2014).
Doris loved to travel and always looked forward to her trips. When she was younger, she never failed to venture forth on driving trips, driving as far as 3000 or more miles. In her later life, she loved to go to Branson, Missouri. Her vacations were limited only by her fear of flying.
She is buried with her husband, grandmother, grandfather, great aunt and uncle in the old city cemetery in Waxahachie, Texas.
