GARDENDALE - T.O. "Tommy" Thomasson, of Gardendale, beloved Daddy, Granddaddy and Uncle Ber, was delivered into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, December 4, 2009, in Odessa.

Tommy was born December 16, 1924, in Coryell County to Walter Clayton and Lola Mae Chapman Thomasson.

Tommy was a well-loved man and accomplished carpenter. He joined the United States Navy on his 17th birthday in 1941 and went on to serve in the South Pacific as a Fighting Sea Bee during World War II for 3 ½ years. He also joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners at this time where he became a lifetime member.

In 1947 while married to his first wife, he moved to San Angelo, Texas, where he temporarily sold vacuum cleaners door to door and began his longtime career as a trade carpenter building many homes in the area and in Rock Springs. Following his first wife's death, he married his second wife and continued to keep home base in San Angelo while applying his skills in other locations scattered throughout Texas. He was awarded an honorary Masters Degree in Building Trades and taught at the college and high school in San Angelo. Features of today's high-end designer kitchens are based off a kitchen that he had designed which was introduced in "House Beautiful Magazine" in 1960.

Upon marriage to his third wife, he relocated his home to Andrews, Texas. While there, he traveled to the states of, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico and Ohio as well as various cities in Texas where he built beautiful churches. When he was no longer building churches, he started his business "Tommy's Cabinets" where he incorporated his original trim design in most of his work. Cabinets were his specialty, but he built everything from homes and buildings, renovations, original designs and even projects for his children.

One of his greatest joys was to bring good ole country music to those who would hear him sing. He traveled West Texas as "Tommy Thomasson and the Blue Wranglers" pickin' the guitar, strummin' his bass and singing real country music. At one time, Ray Price offered him a job which he declined.

In later years, he entertained residents in area nursing homes of the Permian Basin and brought joy to so many who had none. He even had a troupe of dancers that would come out with him and danced with the residents of the nursing home. This is also where he met his current wife, Virginia, and has spent the last, almost 12 years with her in Gardendale doing things that he loved to do and enjoying life.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; wife, Glendola; ex-wife, Lorean; his grandson, Steven; and his 'daughters', Bootsie and Cindy.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; ex-wife, Peggy; two daughters and son-in-laws, Denisa (54) and Mikel Casey of Midland, (children David Marston and Jennifer Lopez) and Joycelynn (29) and Robert Young of Chesapeake, Va. (children Mitchell Travers and Gavin Young); 'sons' Randall, Waymon and Glynn Brewster, John Mitchell (Johnny Bob) and Marvin and Ricky Jennings; 'daughters', Lisa Burkhardt, Pam Johns Riegel and Martha Lemons; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grand-children; and 7 great-great-grandbabies. To him there was no such thing as a stepchild. They were his children and grandbabies no matter their age. He is also survived by his brother, Terry Thomasson; sister, Thala Poe; and numerous nieces, and nephews who loved him so very much.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held December 8, 2009, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the home of his 'daughter' Martha Lemons and husband Mikel 10747 E. Goldenrod, Gardendale, TX 79758. If you wish to attend, please call for directions at (432) 238-1764. His ashes will be spread in his home county of Coryell and his urn buried in a National Cemetery at a date yet to be determined.

In lieu of flowers and plants, donations may be made to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761, where he spent his last hours in their wonderful care.

Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Online condolences may be made to www.frankwwilson.com.
