Phillip Sailor was born in Carroll county, Ohio, Dec. 4, 1844, and died Dec. 27, 1930, at the age of 86 years and 23 days.

He was a son of John and Catherine Sailor, one of a family of eleven children, all of whom have preceded him to the country beyond except one brother, John G. of Cedar Bluff.

In 1855 he came to Iowa with his parents directly to the Cedar Bluff vicinity, and here he spent his life in a quiet way, respected and esteemed by many friends. By frugality he acquired a neat little home in Cedar Bluff, living there until a few months before his death, sharing his home with his brother's widow, Mrs. Mercy Sailor, for a number of years. For twenty-five years he was a faithful caretaker of Evergreen cemetery where his body was laid to await the resurrection morn, and he took great pride in keeping the grounds beautiful. He also care for the Shawver cemetery a number of years.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 29, at the Cedar Bluff church, Rev. W. E. Van Buren officiating.
