DIED - SAILOR.
The oldest person in Cedar county, in the person of Catherine Sailor, was buried at Cedar Bluff last week Tuesday, she being nearly 95 years old. She was born in Lancaster county, Pa., in 1804. She was the wife of J. Sailor, having been married in Ohio, and in the early fifties came to Cedar county, Iowa, where she has lived ever since. Her husband having died thirteen years ago, she made her home with her children.
She has been a member of the M. E. church for the past 65 years, and was a devoted christian lady even down to death.
She was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom are still living. She also leaves 33 grand-children and 28 great-grand-children.
During the last six or seven years of her life she has been totally blind, thus making life somewhat dark for her, but amidst all the difficulties incident to extreme old age, in addition to blindness, she was cheerful beyond measure, never at any time finding fault. She received the tenderest care possible from her children, especially from Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Sailor, with whom she stayed the most. On Sunday eve, April 9th, she received a paralytic stroke, and on Sunday, April 16th, one week later, at 10 o'clock p.m., died.
Her funeral was preached to a large assembly of her friends by her pastor, Rev. J. H. Thompson, on Tuesday, April 18th, after which she was laid to rest in the cemetery west of Cedar Bluff.
