Mrs. Mary Constance Cullum, 85, died Sunday, April 4, 2010.
She was born Nov. 5, 1924 in Caruthersville to Pink B. Acuff and Delphia Mills Acuff.
Aug. 1, 1947, in Caruthersville, she was united in marriage to James Cullum.
After graduating from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau with a degree in Education, Mrs. Mary taught in Caruthersville until she and her husband moved to St. Louis and then to Allen Park, MI where she continued teaching before retiring in 1985 and moving to Memphis, TN. In 1992, Mrs. Mary and her husband moved home to Caruthersville to be closer to family.
Mrs. Mary loved her church, her friends, and the Detroit Tigers. She played the piano and organ and sang in church for over 50 years. She loved her friends like they were her family, and she and James spent every spring after retirement following the Detroit Tigers through their Spring Training in Florida.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, Pink and Delphia Acuff; and a brother, Pink B. Acuff Jr.
Mary is survived by her husband, James; two children, Mary Evelyn Mewhirter and her husband George of Malden, MO and James Daniel Cullum and his wife Cherie; a sister, Evelyn Lawes of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Dr. William J. Acuff and his wife Sandra of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, Beau Danl Mcwhirter, Alvin James Mcwhirter and Ian Phillips; two great-grandchildren, Madison Mcwhirter and Lindsay Mewhirter; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville with Brother Bill Oakley officiating. Burial was held in the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville.
