In 1890 William left Alabama with his wife and six children and settled in Spring City, Utah. His wife and children were baptised in Utah. They stayed for a year then went back to Alabama for ten years. In 1901 they again moved to Utah and settled in Parowan, Iron, Utah in southern Utah. Then they moved to Wiser Ranch at Moapa, Clark, Nevada. Hicksey Ann hated the west and went home every chance she got.
