1850 - A steam saw mill was erected by Elam Clark and Warren Jackman and abandoned many years ago.

1852 - In July Warren sold Lot 55 to his father. On August 4th Warren opened a store in building on west side of Bowen Rd and south bank of Big Buffalo Creek. On October 1st Warren moved family into addition built on west end of store. Mail was brought/sent to store so people grew in habit of calling for their mail there. One evening in October with several people in the store, they thought that a post office was needed. Because they needed a name for the PO, one person suggested putting an "a" on elm (big elm tree on Clinton & Bowen St). Washington DC approved. Warren became first postmaster. (From the History of Elma. NY)

Aug 1855 - Warren sold goods in his store to Riley Ives, and Ives kept the store. Warren then bought Elon Clark's interest in Clark, Briggs, & Co - property and business. The firm name was changed to J.B. Briggs & Co. (The History of the Town of Elma)

1857 - Warren is appointed Town Clerk

1861 - In June Warren was appointed Postmaster.
