James R. Jackman started life a poor boy and by his industry. perseverance and economy acquired a comfortable competence. He, was an active magistrate of the town
for many years, and was made judge of the county court by Gov. Seward. He was a man fully to be trusted—was always engaged in some good work for the benefit of himself and townsmen.'
He purchased the new cemetery grounds and had it surveyed
into lots, planted trees and made walks for its convenience, and after he had indemnified himself for the purchase aud improvements, gave it to the village trustees and their successon. His remains lie there in that beautiful repose of the dead.
