Joseph Carl Pruitt, 75, of Ash, NC died Tuesday, December 18, 2001 in The Brunswick Community Hospital, Supply. NC. Mr. Pruitt was born, in Brunswick County on October 24, 1926 and was a son of the late Oscar Durant and Carolina Evans Pruitt. He worked for many years as a Newspaper Pressman for the "Raleigh News & Observer" and "The Wilmington Morning Star" newspapers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a Deacon in The New Life Baptist Church, Exum, NC.
Mr. Pruitt is survived by his wife Juanita Beltz Pruitt of the home, a son; Joseph Carl (Joey) Pruitt Jr. and wife Annette, of Ash, and a daughter; Debbie P. Duncan and husband Artie, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC., a grandson, Arthur Boyd Duncan IV, (Corey) of Ocean Isle Beach, his brother, Kermit Pruitt of Fayetteville, NC., and four sisters; Willa P. Ward of Perry, FL.; Mary P. Wigner and Rachel P. Inman, both of Wilmington, NC., and Sally P. Smith of Swanee, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 21, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. from the New Life Baptist Church, Exum, NC, by the Rev. Clayton Rivenbark. Burial will be in the New Life Church Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be John Miller, Tony Sellers, Donald Ward, Kermit Pruitt, Durant Pruitt, and John Pruitt. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2001, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte.
