Sunny as she was called, graduated from the Quaker Academy in Gate, Oklahoma, and taught primary school in both Oklahoma and Colorado for a number of years.

Later, she opened a flower shop in Golden in the corner of a drugstore in the middle of the Great Depression. From that beginning she developed a thriving business that included a flowershop, green house and large garden where she grew many of her own flowers. The acre of landscaped garden surrounding her own house was featured at one time in Better Homes and Gardens. Known for both her artistic talent and love of people, she taught flower arranging in her later years at various venues including senior programs around Denver.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Sunny also worked for many years posting bail bonds in Jefferson County. On more than one occasion, she managed to find and drag a fugitive back for a court date despite being only 5 feet tall.

Her hobbies included playing the piano and singing.

She had one daughter, Jeanne, by Leslie Carpenter.
