Note on the middle initials: John was born with the middle initial F. as shown in all his records up to and including the 1900 census. In the 1905 Iowa census it is written as John F.C. Wright. After that time all his records record his name as John C. Wright. It is not known why he changed it from ‘F' to ‘C' and it has been speculated it was because there was another John F. Wright in Shell Rock.

Passes Away Saturday Following Stroke; To Clay in 1886
____
J. C. Wright, 77, 936 West Fourth Street, died Saturday evening, January 19, 1935, at 7:30 o'clock, at his home following a stroke suffered late that afternoon. Although in weakened health for several years so that he was not able to be about in the usual manner, Mr. Wright was enjoying comparatively good health this winter, and was able to be out of the house on several instances.
Mr. Wright spent his entire life in the state of Iowa. He was born October 30, 1857 at Albia, Iowa, and grew to young manhood at that place. During his youth he joined the Christian church. His marriage to Emma Paley took place October 19, 1884, at Shell Rock. They remained there for two years before moving to Clay county in 1886. He has spent the succeeding years in Spencer and vicinity.

Active in Church Work
Uniting with the Spencer Church of Christ March 10, 1889, by Letter from the Albia church, Mr. Wright was active in its many departments. He was elected to the office of deacon, and later to that of trustee. The office of elder was bestowed upon Mr. Wright in 1914, which he continued to hold until five or six years ago when he was named elder emeritus.
Mr. Wright leaves to mourn his passing in addition to his wife, Mrs. Wright, three children, Mrs. Carrie Stauffer of Spencer, Mrs. Naomi Giep of New London, Conn., and Lawrence Wright of Des Moines. A fourth child, Edna, died in infancy. There are also four grandchildren, Zelda, Caryl and Wayne Stauffer and Jeanne Giep.

Golden Wedding
Mrs. Geip and daughter, Jeanne, made an extended visit in Spencer last summer, coming to attend the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Wright which was observed last fall.
Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 o'clock and at two o'clock from the Christian church Tuesday. Rev. Forrest L. Richeson, pastor, officiated. Mrs. Roy Noll and Mrs. Delia Hagberg sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Axe "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." Mrs. Howard Rice accompanied at the piano.
Interment was in Riverside cemetery, with the following casket bearers representing the offices held by Mr. Wright: Dr. C. J. Coder, C. G. Rankin, A. T. Knight and S. R. Axe, elders, J. E. Oxley, deacon and Max Manning, trustee.
