Samuel Jameson Wright was a Civil War Soldier serving in the 3rd Iowa Light Artillery

He enlisted in 3rd Iowa Light Artillery on 4 Feb 1864 -age 17- in Etna Twp., Hardin County, Iowa. Written consent was given by his father, Dr. Samuel Wright.

Mustered in on 24 Feb 1864 Hardin Co., Iowa.
Mustered out of service 23 Oct 1865 Davenport, Iowa.

Physical description at enlistment: 5 feet, 5 inches, blue eyes, light color hair, and light complexion.

Obituary:
Samuel J. Wright, aged 84 years, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Fisher, 526 East Twelfth Street, Bentonville shortly after 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 1931. Funeral services were held at the Fisher home this Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock, the Rev. A.W. Henderson, pastor of the First Presbyterian officiating. Burial was made in the City Cemetery. Mr. Wright was born in Iowa Dec. 1, 1846 where he grew to manhood. At the age of 17 he joined the Third Iowa Battery and served until the close of the Civil War. The passing of Mr. Wright leaves but one Union soldier residing in Bentonville. This is William Sullivan who is nearing the ninety mark. In 1867 he married Miss Ellen Ward who died in Buffalo, Okla. in 1905. Mr. Wright, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Fisher, came to Bentonville from Jefferson, Oklahoma in 1911. Mr. Wright had been in apparently good health until the day before Thanksgiving when he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. About three weeks ago a complication of diseases set in and he has been confined to his home since. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Fisher, he is survived by a son, Edwin C. Wright, whose present address is unknown.
