Brooks – Herbert E Ryan, 85, died Sept. 12, 1986, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Brooks, Dec 4, 1900, the son of Samuel F. and Susie B. (Sanborn) Ryan. He was the husband of the late Hazel (Caldwell) Ryan, who died in 1981.
He had taught in public schools for over 43 years. He was a former selectman of Brooks, a member and past master of Marsh River Lodge of Masons of Brooks, a member and past master of Harvest Home Grange and Pomona Grange, and a member of the Brooks Booster Club. He was also a member of the Brooks Congregational Church.
He is survived by four sons and wives, Herbert & Marion Ryan Jr. of Winterport, Willard & Lurleen Ryan of Stratton, Roland & Dolly Ryan of Brooks, Dennis & Lorraine Ryan of Brooks; two daughters and husbands, Eleanor & Graydon Wellman of Winterport and Rita & Robert Low of Fairfield; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Brooks Congregational Church with Revs. Charles & Janet Heslam officiating. Burial will be in Kenney Cemetery in Brooks. (Republican Journal)
