She was born July 13, 1934, in Brooks, daughter of Herbert Edward and Hazel (Caldwell) Ryan.
Rita was educated in the Brooks school system, through her high school graduation in 1951. She earned an associate degree through the University of Maine at Augusta and Thomas College.
Rita's employment included the State of Maine Tax Division, general accounting in retail businesses including hardware, plumbing, grain, federally funded programs and alcoholic rehabilitation center. She held license number 355 as administrator of health care facilities other than hospital. She was involved with nursing home management for over 22 years. Rita assisted the state of Maine as a liaison consultant for health-care facilities and operated the family business flower shop in Benton. She was also a notary public.
Rita was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, serving on the Diaconate Board and other committees.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert M. Low; her brothers, Herbert Ryan Jr. and Willard Ryan; her sister-in-law, Dolly Ryan; and her brother-in-law, Graydon Wellman.
Survivors include her three beloved sons, Dan Larrabee and his wife, Kathy of Augusta, Ga., Dana Larrabee and his wife, Diana of Oceanside, Calif., and Dave Larrabee and his wife, Kim of Fayette; her grandchildren, Talli Sullivent, Dabney, Quinton, and Emily Ludwig, all of Augusta, Ga., Ashley Ryan Larrabee of San Diego, Calif., Kevin Verbael of Boston, Mass., Kyle Larrabee of Oceanside, Calif., Jimmy Larrabee of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Heather and Samantha Larrabee of Fayette; her great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Jayke Sullivent and Jacob Morales, all of Augusta, Ga.; one sister, Eleanor Ryan Wellman of Winterport; sister-in-law, Marian Ryan of Winterport; two brothers, Roland Ryan of Brooks, and Dennis Ryan and his wife, Lorraine of Knox; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews; and many special friends.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at First Baptist Church, Newhall Street, Fairfield. A private family burial will occur at Kenney Cemetery, Brooks. (Republican Journal 11/29/2009)
