Dorothy J. Housenga, age 79, of Morrison, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center South, Clinton IA.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, with Rev. Jon W. Nienhuis officiating. Burial will be in the Fenton Cemetery in Fulton. Visitations will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. A memorial has been established for the Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison.
Dorothy was born September 28, 1924 in rural Whiteside County, daughter of Clarence P. and Helen (Prins) Smith. She was educated in the Garden Plain Grade School in Garden Plain. Dorothy married Harold E. Housenga on June 8, 1940 in Maquoketa, IA; Harold died July 31, 1982. She had worked for the Wilkens Royal Blue Grocery Store and the Coffee Cup Restaurant, both in Morrison. She also worked as a CNA at the Morrison Community Hospital. She cared for her husband during his illness. Dorothy was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison.
Dorothy family includes a daughter, Roberta (Mrs. Joe) Randall of Savanna; two sons, Roland (Nancy) Housenga of Greenfield, IN, and Harry (Jill) Housenga of Camanche, IA; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Ella Mae Tenboer of Morrison; three brothers; Harold (Anna Marie) Smith of Fulton, Francis (Joann) Smith of Mountain Home, AR, and Gerald (Marjorie) Smith of Kenosha, WI; and one sister-in-law, Ella Smith of Garden Plain.
Her husband; daughter, Irene Pape; great grandson, Corey Weeks; sister, Johanna Blink; and four brothers, Alfred, Gene, Clarence and Clifford Smith precede Dorothy in death.
