Soon after, her Crawford family migrated south through Arkansas where Martha Jane was born, and then into Texas. The year after her birth, in 1855 her father and grandfather purchased sizable tracts of land just a few miles east of the new community of San Saba, TX (founded 1852), and being along the San Saba River at Brown's Branch. Here they started a successful, multi-generational stock ranch known as the Crawford Cattle Ranch.
There in San Saba is where Martha met and married Luther David Bushong on 21 Oct 1873. The young couple began to raise a family here, but soon their young family migrated south to the Hill Country Region of Texas being settled along the banks of the Guadalupe River in Kerr Co, TX by 1880. Here Martha and L.D. would raise up and care for their five children in the early Texas settler community of Japonica (today's Hunt, TX).
