Born the eldest son of Virginia adventurer, true cowboy, and early Texas settler Luther David Bushong and his wife Martha Jane CRAWFORD Bushong. Edgar was raised in his youth on his maternal grandfather's Crawford Cattle Ranch (est. 1855) being just east of the newly founded town of San Saba, TX.

Below is a brief excerpt of that place in time from: "A History of San Saba, Texas

... Probably the first Spaniard to cross the area of present San Saba County was Juan Antonio Bustillo y Zevallos who is thought to have marched an expeditionary force along the San Saba River to encounter the Apache in present Menard County. On Holy Saturday (Santo Sabado) in 1755 a small band of Spaniards including a priest and a number of soldiers seeking a site for a mission and presidio requested by the Lipan Apache Indians came upon a clear, spring-fed stream at a point near the site of the present city of Menard in Central Texas. They selected that as the site for the mission. The mission was established there in 1757 and it was named San Saba Mission in memory of the day on which the site was discovered. From that mission has come the name for the San Saba River, San Saba County, and the City of San Saba. Jose Mares also is supposed to have crossed the area in 1788 on his expedition from San Antonio, TX to Santa Fe, NM but the region remained Indian country until the first Anglo-Americans began surveying land there in 1839 ..."

From San Saba, TX his father and mother would move their young family south to Kerr County just prior to 1880, and here they would settle along the Guadalupe River near the early Texas settler community of Japonica (today's Hunt, TX). Of age, E.E. Bushong first married Susan E. HYDE Bushong on 23 Nov 1898 in Kerr Co, TX. The young couple lost their only child at birth on 11 Nov 1899 and so Edward Edgar Bushong is laid to rest in the Hunt-Japonica Cemetery.

E.E. Bushong married a second time to Margaret Mae 'Maggie' AULD Bushong on 28 Jul 1909. The young couple was blessed with one son Julius Levi Bushong. Soon after, the young couple purchased lands just north of Leakey, Real Co, TX. Together they poured themselves into the hard work of the Texas Hill Country ranching business they enjoyed throughout their lives.
