In 1855 Mary traveled with her parents (Peter born in Scotland and Mary Whitworth Basler born in England) and six siblings, from Pennsylvania to Rock Island, IL Then in January of 1856 trekked across Iowa for a month to reach Sac County.
They settled several miles south of Sac City, in the vicinity of Grant City. Mary (Basler) and Amos Comstock had five children, two of whom (Flora and Amos, Jr.) died in infancy and are buried by them at Cory Grove.
Surviving children were James H., Mary Jane (Matie)Forsyth Welch and William E. (Ern).
Mary's parents are buried in the Grant City cemetery. Mary's grandfather, Thomas Whitworth, is buried at Oakland Cem., Sac City.
