Mr. John M. Thompson, age 67, of South Washington Street, Mt. Vernon, died early Saturday morning in the Meadows Nursing Center of Vidalia after a long illness. Mr. Thompson was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was the Owner and Operator of the John M. Thompson Logging Company of Mt. Vernon and was a member of the Ailey Baptist Church.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Christine G. Thompson of Mt. Vernon; four sons, David Thompson of Helena, Paul Thompson of Waycross, Michael Thompson of Mt. Vernon and Dannie Thompson of Savannah; three brothers, Louis H. Thompson and Earl Thompson of Mt. Vernon, Mac Thompson of Blackshear; one sister, Mrs. Betty Gilbert of Macon; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Thompson were held Sunday afternoon, June 9, 1991, at 4 o'clock from the Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Rev. Roger Branch and Rev. Paul Jackson officiating. Interment was in the Thompson Cemetery near Ailey. Pallbearers were Louie Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Jimmy Gilbert, Tommy Gilbert, Hugh Thompson, and Tommy Thompson. Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service of Vidalia was in charge of funeral arrangements.
