Watauga Democrat Obituary:
Mrs. Alba Jane Baird Watson, 97, of 2520 Rominger Road, Banner Elk, the Matney community, died Tuesday night, June 17, 2003, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 28, 1905, in Matney, Watauga County, to the late Joe and Parthina Church Baird.
Mrs. Watson was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Clara Michael and husband, Henry; and one son, Rev. Everette Watson and wife, Venice, all of Banner Elk; and one sister, Mrs. Lula Spangler of Heaton. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vonley Perry Watson; a daughter, Ola Smith Potter; two granddaughters, Donna Minton and Sue Wright; one great-grandson, Charles Minton; two brothers, Fate Baird and Vester Baird; and four sisters, Effie Miller, Nelia Blackburn, Lillian Baird and Lou McGee.
Services will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at Bethany Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 10-11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Lynn Shook and the Rev. Maurice Ward. Burial will follow in the Michael Family Cemetery in Matney.
The family will receive friends this evening (Friday) from 7-9 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends my call at the homes of Clara and Henry Michael, 295 Lee Gualtney Road and Everette and Venice Watson, 2522 Rominger Road, both in the Matney community.
Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Watauga County, 136 Furman Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.
