Kirwin Kansan--February 15, 1922

David Witheral Horsman was born March 5, 1853, at Baraboo, Wisconsin. He departed this life at his residence in Kirwin at 10 o'clock Saturday night, February 18, 1822, having attained the age of 68 years, 11 months and 13 days. He was married to Miss Lucy Deppen at Clarksdale, Missouri, February 13, 1880.

That year he went to Dakota where he remained till 1885 when he came to Kirwin. He held a homestead here but followed his trade as a carpenter all his life. After residing here for six years, he moved with his family to Missouri in 1891 and after a sojourn there of 20 years, he returned to Kirwin in 1911 where he has remained till the time of his death.

On Monday, February 13, the 42d anniversary of his marriage, Mr. Horsman had a stroke of paralysis which was the cause of his death five days later. During those days he put up a strong fight to win the victory but to no avail.

To Mr. and Mrs. Horsman were born five daughters and two sons. One daughter, Cecil Minnie, died at the age of four years. The other six children, together with his widow, remain to mourn his departure.

The surviving children are:
Mrs. Nora Ulrich of Castle Ford, Idaho
Arthur Horsman of Wichita, Kansas
Mrs. Flossie Pounds of Logan, Kansas
Mrs. Elsie Lambert of Kirwin
Mrs. May McQueen of Kirwin
Owen Horsman of Kirwin

Aside from his immediate family mentioned above, Mr. Horsman is survived by five grandchildren, 3 brothers and 2 sisters besides a host of friends.

Mr. Horsman joined the Odd Fellows Lodge in the 1880s and since his residence here he has been one of the earnest workers in that order.

His funeral was conducted at his late home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The address was given by Rev. Fred Roys Bush, and the music was furnished by Mesdames L. F. Campbell and J. L. Read who sang "Close, Close to Thee", "In The Garden", and "Rock of Ages".

After the service at the house the Odd Fellows took charge of the remains and accompanied them to the Kirwin cemetery where their ritual was used for the burial.
