On December the 22nd, the death angel visited our home and took our beloved grandfather, A. M. Phillips. He had been afflicted with cancer for the last fifteen years, for the last seven weeks he was confined to his bed.
He was born April 2, 1841, in Laurel county and has always made his home there. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Tankersley, who preceded him to the grave by ten years. From this union six children were born, all of whom are left to mourn the loss of their father. There are also twenty-five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren left. He was a member of the Christian church at Mt. Carmen.
For the last five years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. W. B. Landrum. He was always patient and it was remarkable how he bore all his sufferings. All was done that loving hands could do for him.
The funeral services were held at the home, December 23rd, and his body was laid to rest at the Mt. Carmel cemetery, beside his wife.
A Loving granddaughter,
NANNIE LANDRUM
