Lucy Mae Smelley Tipton was born 2-22-1894 to John Allen Smelley and Lizzie Owens Smelley. Ten children were born from this union; Lucinda, Maggie, Burton, Josie, Allie, Lesley, Jewel, Viola, Theron, and Mable. Lucy was christened Aug. 1914 at the Bonita Church in Nacogdoches Co. She taught school and then married Irvin Andrew Tipton on 10-2-1910 at Linn Flat, Texas,in Nacogdoches Co. She was a homemaker. They had 6 children, Georgia Faye, Herman, Mildred May, Dee Allen, Ernest, and Dorothy. Lucy was a Methodist. They had lived in Travick,Texas, where they farmed and had a syrup mill. Then they lived on farms at Mahl, Texas, and Poolville, Texas. After Irvin's death, Lucy moved to Fort Worth to live near her daughters, Dorothy and Faye.She died in a Fort Worth Hospital and was buried in the Poolville Cemetery.
