Hiram Carson Woodring, 58, of Hagerstown, Route 5, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at the Wayncsboro Hospital following a heart attack. He was born at Fairfield, son of George and Annie (Carson) Woodring. He lived most of his life in the Waynesboro vicinity.
In his early life the deceased conducted a riding academy at Pen Mar and then for a number of years served in the Waynesboro Police Department. During World War II he served as chief of guards of the Landis Tool Co. Later he was employed as chief of police at Emmitsburg, Md. Three years ago he moved to Maugansville and operated a poultry farm. Since March of this year he had lived at Hagerstown Route 5. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.
He is survived by wife, Mrs. Nettie (Pryor) Woodring: four sons, Richard C., Franklin P., Lee D. and Deane C.; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Amos Sanders, Mrs. Ira Snowberger, Mrs. Russell Oller, all of Waynesboro; John, Metamora, Mich.; Mrs. Ethel Miller, Topton, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro with the Rev. Dr. B. C. Ritz, Waynesboro, and the Rev. Max A. Williams, Hagerstown, officiating. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9 o'clock.
