Franklin Pryor Woodring, 70, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at his home.

Born Aug. 17, 1942, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Hiram Carson and Nettie Louise (Pryor) Woodring.

He was a 1960 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and a 1964 graduate of Hagerstown Junior College. He received his B.A. from Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind., in 1967.

He was a TTS operator for The Herald-Mail Co. in Hagerstown and later was a sports reporter for The Herald-Mail and the Public Opinion in Chambersburg, Pa.

After he graduated from Grace College, he served as sports editor of the Warsaw Times-Union in Indiana.

He taught school in Washington County for 31 years, including 24 years at Heritage Academy, where he sponsored numerous organizations, as well as coaching varsity softball and varsity baseball.

For the past 22 years, he was the editor/publisher of the Maryland Cracker Barrel magazine.

He is survived by his

a son,
Chad Woodring of Boonsboro and his wife, Dawn;
two grandchildren,
Clare and Lance Woodring;
brothers,
Dr. Richard Woodring and his wife, Dr. Barbara Woodring, of Augusta, Ga.,
Lee Woodring and his wife, Suzanne, of Waynesboro, Pa., and
Deane Woodring and his wife, Carole, of Waynesboro;
father and mother-in-law,
Fred and Bonnie Kuhn of Funkstown, Md.; and
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the former Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown, where he served on numerous boards, as well as teaching Sunday school.

In his spare time, he loved sports, travel and gardening. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially in recent years with Clare and Lance, who put a sparkle in his eye.

The family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial services at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown will be private.
