SCHMIDLI, Conrad
b: Oct 9 1840, Zurich, Switzerland
d: Dec 18 1928, Henry Co, MO
bur: Finey Church Cemetery, Osage Twp, Henry Co, MO
Clinton MO - Conrad Schmidli was born October 9, 1840, at Zurich, Switzerland, departed this life December 18, 1928, being 88 years, 2 months and 9 days old. Was married to Anna Hansler, August 15, 1871. To this union 9 children were born, all of whom still survive. They are Mrs. H. A. Haverland, Lowry City; Coon Schmidli, Brownington; John of Kansas City; Henry Schmidli of Brownington; Mrs. Clarence Jones, Eaton, Colo.; Will Schmidli, of Deepwater; Mrs. John Young of Weston, Mo., and Jake and Miss Leza at home. He was converted at the age of 18 and united with the German Lutheran church to which he remained true until death. In 1869, he came to America and resided in St. Louis until 1877, when he removed to Henry county, where he had since resided. Besides the companion and children, he leaves 15 grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his going. He was active and working about the farm until Thursday, the 13th, when he took cold and was confined to the house, but his condition was not thought serious until Monday, when Dr. Logan, of Warsaw, was called and pronounced it high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries. Tuesday morning the neighbors thought him better and went home. Only the wife and three children - Jake and Leza, of the home, and son Henry, nearby, were present when the end came. Such is the history of this good man, but to the writer, who has had the pleasure of enjoying the hospitality of this home for nearly half a century, it is fitting to say that in the passing of Mr. Schmidli the entire neighborhood has lost a friend for he was loved and honored by all who knew him. It was a pleasure to talk with him because of his high ideals of life. He was always posted on the current events of the day, being a great reader. He loved music, having played in the band in his native land, also in St. Louis. Funeral services were held at the Finey Baptist Church Thursday, the 20th. The pall bearers were four sons - John, Henry, Will and Jake and one son-in-law, H. A. Haverland. The children were all present at the funeral except Coon and Mrs. John Young, who was unable to come because of sickness in her own home. The remains were laid to rest in the Finey cemetery beneath a beautiful floral offering, there to await the judgment morn.
