SCHMIDLI, Anna HANSLER
b: Jul 24 1850, Zurich, Switzerland
d: May 28 1931, Henry Co, MO
bur: Finey Church Cemetery, Osage Twp, Henry Co, MO
Clinton MO - Anna Hansler was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1850; died May 28, 1931, age 80 years, ten months and four days. She was married to Conrad Schmidli August 15, 1871. To this union nine children were born, all of whom are living. They are: Mrs. H. A. Haverland, of Lowry City; Conrad Jr., and Henry, near the home; John of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Clarence Jones of Eaton, Colo.; Will of Deepwater, Mo.; Mrs. John Young of Chilhowee, Mo., and Leza and Jake of the home, who by their beautiful devotion to her cheered and cared for her through her declining years. All the children were present for the funeral except Mrs. Clarence Jones, who came and was with her mother the first week of her illness, but was compelled to return home. Mrs. Schmidli leaves besides her children, 15 grandchildren, who were present, and a host of friends to mourn their loss. She lived in St. Louis from the time of her marriage until 1877, when with her family she moved to Henry county and located near Mt. Zion, where they lived for a short time. Then they moved to the present home near Finey, where she lived until her death. She was converted and united with the Lutheran Reform church at the age of 18. She later moved her membership to the German church near Mt. Zion, and all her life she worked unpartially with God's people of all denominations. Hers was a beautiful Christian character and she lived a life of the fullest service. Such is the brief history of this good mother. All who knew her, knew her as a faithful wife and companion; a loving mother, who was devoted to their family, and no sacrifice was too great for their comfort or welfare. She was a neighbor of the old school type in the fullest meaning of the word. She leaves to her family by example and precept an inheritance of old fashioned German thrift and neatness. To the community in which most of her life was spent she leaves a wealth of love and service that will survive and enrich the present generation. To the land of her adoption, she leaves as citizens, sons and daughters who stand for the highest type of civilization and civic righteousness. Mother Schmidli had been in failing health for some time due to high blood pressure, but seemed in her usual health. On Sunday, May 3rd, she attended Sunday school at Finey in the morning, ate dinner in the home of O. E. Smiley, visited in the home of Mrs. Stephens in the afternoon. On Monday morning when her daughter Leza went into her room and asked her how she felt, she said, "I don't know what's the matter." Leza called Jake and told him "something is wrong with mother." He then went and spoke to her and she made the same remark. They called their brother, Henry, and Dr. Logan, of Warsaw at once. the doctor said she had suffered a stroke due to a ruptured blood vessel which had caused partial paralysis of mind and speech. All that medical skill and loving hands could do, was done to prolong her life, but she gradually grew worse and at ten o'clock on the night of the 28th, she slipped quietly and peacefully away to join her husband who preceded her on December 18, 1928. Funeral services were held at the Finey Baptist church Saturday, May the 30th. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband under a wealth of beautiful flowers.
