Born January 15, 1930, in York, Joseph was a son of the late Joseph S. and Ruth I. (Myers) Barley.
He was a member of the West York Area High School Class of 1948.
Mr. Barley worked as an advertising salesman and production manager for the York Gazette and Daily, Everybody's Press, Columbia News, York Dispatch, and retired from USA Direct in 1992.
He served in the 32nd Engineer Construction Group of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Joe was a life member of the Reliance Fire Company and of the Viking Athletic Assoc. He was the Founder of EBK Publishing Co., Inc. where he was the editor and publisher of the Colonial Visitor, the West York Area Newsette, the Glen Rock Newsette, the Southern York County Reporter, the Dover Area Reporter, and the Penn's Woods Camper magazine from '73 – 81'. Founder and organizer of the Camper's World RV Show for 15 years, as well as several other business enterprises, Joe also enjoyed camping, gardening, sports, and gospel music.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Barley is survived by three sons, Eric J. Barley and wife, Hilary of York New Salem, Barron P. Barley and wife, Cynthia of East Berlin, and Karl R. Barley and wife, Donna of York; five grandchildren, Samantha Barley, Daniel Barley, Andrew Barley, Heather Barley, and Ryan Barley; and one brother, Rev. Richard Barley and wife, Barbara of York.
Burial, with full military rites provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard, was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
