Born in Oregon, Littlejohn was 19, and living in Delaware Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. B of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Feb. 26, 1864.

He was taken prisoner during action at (2nd) Ripley, MS, on June 11, 1864. During that action, the 4th Iowa Cavalry lost 3 men killed, 10 wounded, and 9 captured (4 were later released, and 5 died as POWs).

Littlejohn died at Andersonville as a POW on Feb. 10, 1865.
