Howard R. Schwemm, 81, of Crystal Lake, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 at Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry.
He was born April 15, 1919 in Cary, the son of William and Sophia Dehmlow Schwemm.
He was married May 20, 1950 in Dundee to Viola Nepermann.
Mr. Schwemm was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Crystal Lake and served on many of it's boards. He was a retired Truck Driver for Bower Oil Company and Boncosky Oil Company where he worked for over 40 years. He was a volunteer at Crystal Lake Food Pantry and Bethesda Thrift Store. He was a member of Tuesday night Men's Bowling league at Metro Bowl for 30 years and Thursday night mixed league for 48 years at Metro Bowl. He was also a member of Crystal Lake American Legion Post 171 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Viola of Crystal Lake; two brothers, Gordon (Rose) Schwemm of Delavan, Wis. and Leslie (Dorothy) Schwemm of Crystal Lake; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 178 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, the Rev. Edward Bergen and Rev. Tom Tews officiating. Burial will follow at McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rt. 176) Crystal Lake.
