CRYSTAL LAKE - Viola "Vi" N. Schwemm, 84, of Crystal Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.

She was born Oct. 25, 1923, on the Nepermann Farm in Dundee, to William and Bertha, nee Holtz, Nepermann. On May 20, 1950, she married Howard Schwemm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dundee. He died Nov. 8, 2000.

She went to the Country Meadowdale School just north of the farm and later attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Dundee, where she was confirmed. She graduated from Dundee Community High School and later worked at the Elgin Watch Factory, Gumprecht Trucking and Crystal Lake Leasing.

She has been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crystal Lake, for more than 50 years.

She enjoyed the Cubs, bowling, playing cards with her Immanuel lady friends, and baking Christmas cookies and delicious pies, which always were gladly received at family gatherings. Her love of the farm carried over into her own backyard as she tended to her raspberry patch and beautiful flowers.

She was a very private person and a devout Christian lady who studied the Bible and possessed a keen sense of others' needs. She was a former member of the Immanuel Lutheran Altar Guild, a member of Immanuel's Club 60 and Thursday Morning Bible Class, and a volunteer at the Bethesda Thrift Store and the Crystal Lake Food Pantry for more than 20 years.

She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Viola is survived by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Nepermann of Dundee, Marion Anderson of Ingleside and Gladys Nepermann; and many nieces, nephews and very dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years; a brother, Bernhart "Ben" Nepermann in infancy and brothers, Leslie Nepermann in 2007 and Leo Nepermann in 2004; and many brothers- in-law and sisters-in-law of the Schwemm family who were very special to her.

The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., in Crystal Lake. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, until the funeral at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 178 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. The Rev. Larry Tieman and the Rev. Tom Tews will officiate.

Burial will follow at McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to The Pointe Outreach Center, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.
