A retired logger and lumberman, John E. Crawford, 84, of Shady Rest Trailer Court, died yesterday at St. Joseph’s Hospital of complications following a stroke. He had been in poor health for about a month..

Crawford, who never married, was employed by a lumber company at Orofino prior to his retirement. A brother, Joseph F. Crawford, the lone survivor, lives at Spalding..

The son of James and Lucita Crawford, he was born at Dayton Jan. 31, 1884. In the spring of 1891 he moved to Fix Ridge, near Kendrick, where he attended school. There he lived until moving to the Craigmont area in 1898 for a 16-year stay..

He then moved to Weiser and in 1932 moved to Orofino where he lived until 1954, when he went to Spalding. Five years later he came to Lewiston where he lived until his death..

The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 pm. At Brower – Wann Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at the Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens..
