Edith Alma was born in a dugout on the homestead in Texas County, OK to Lydia Ann Sisler and Robert Lee Alspaw. She was the seventh child of 11 born to this couple. All the names started with 'E'; Elbert, Elva, Ethel, Ernest, Emma, Erman, Edith, Elda, Earl, all now deceased and two more that is still living. Edith grew up working in the field, chopping, picking cotton, and doing field work along with her brothers and sisters. She married Markie Maton THOMPSON on 1931 at the Methodist Church in Beggs, OK. She was the mother of three sons and one daughter, Chris. She and the two oldest boys worked in the fields. She canned veggies out of the garden and took care of chickens and did the other household chores that was necessary to survive during the dust bowl and afterwards. After Markie died in 1986, she bought a house in town and lived there until she died 05 June 1991. She is buried in the Beggs Cemetery along side of her husband Markie Thompson.
