Ellen M. (Farison) Brown Ropp, 73 of Midland died Saturday evening, Nov. 17, 2001, at the MidMichigan Medical Center.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1928, in Midland, daughter of the late Elry and Catherine (McFarlane) Farison of Gladwin. She married Clarence Ropp in May of 1995. She owned and operated Ellen's Country Kitchen in Sanford for 17 years and formerly was a cashier at the Giant Supermarket in Midland, bus driver for Midland Schools system, and also was a real estate sales agent. She was well known for playing Bingo, frequenting the Soaring Eagle Casino and watching both the Price is Right and the Young and the Restless. Ellen was a member of the Eagles Club and the Sanford American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 443.

Surviving is her husband, Clarence Ropp of Midland; one son, Bruce Maxwell of Sanford; two daughters, Vickie Maxwell of Sanford and Deborah Coates and her companion, Richard Whitford, both of Tawas City; stepchildren and their spouses, Pam Pflaum of Florida, Kenneth Ropp of Littleton, Colo., Clarence Ropp Jr., of Arlington, Va., Thomas and Cathie Ropp of Huffman, Texas., Roxanne Ropp of Houston, Texas., Susan and Larry Magee of Spring, Texas., Kim and Brenda Ropp of Birch Run, Jeffrey and Karen Ropp of Sanford, and April and Richard Medeiros of Midland, four grandchildren, Coury Coates, Troy Lang, Candie Cole and Dylan Maxwell, stepgrandchildren, Dustin, Hayley, Kelsey, Kayla, Nichole, Jeremy, Brian and Amy, four sisters, Leah Ruth Nimphie and Marjorie Stone both of Beaverton, Shirley Foreman of Gladwin, and Ione Grady of Brimley, and an half-sister, Alta Hedrich of Gladwin; and two stepbrothers, James and Robert Berthume; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harvey and Beatrice Ropp of Midland and Verna and Challis Kunkel of Saginaw. Her husband, Clarence A. Brown, one son, Terry Maxwell, one brother, Douglas Farison, stepmother Marion Farison and a great grandson, predeceased her.

Funeral and committal services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Sister Darleen Oard will officiate, with burial to take place later in the Sanford Cemetery.

Mrs. Ropp's family will receive friends at the funeral on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and one Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Ellen M. (Farison) Brown Ropp, 73 of Midland died Saturday evening, Nov. 17, 2001, at the MidMichigan Medical Center.
