Grapeland Messenger - April 8, 1999 Obit for Services Held ForRoberta Deerman Darsey, 87, of Huntington were held Saturday, April 3, in the Bailey & Foster Chapel, Palestine, with Rev. Keith Stanley and Dr. Jack Shoultz officiating. Interment followed in the Grapeland City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Bolt. Larry Dublin, Hugh Dublin, Charles Lynn, Jerry Mace and Bob Scott, Honorary pallbearers were Terry Parker and Connie Woods.
Mrs. Darsey was born August 31, 1911, in Palestine to Lum and Ossie (Felman) Deerman. She died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in a Lufkin hospital. Mrs. Darsey was a self-employed businesswoman in the oil industry. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Palestine, and a member of the Dogwood Garden Club and Howard Museum. Mrs. Darsey was active in the Harvey Women's Building, Palestine. A longtime resident of Palestine, she had resided in Huntington for the past three years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Darsey was preceded in death by her husband, W. G. Darsey, Jr., and by three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Betty Darsey Woods and Alvin Woods of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Shirley Darsey of Houston; grandchildren, George Omega, Paige, Revill and Rig; nine great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jack Skinner of Lufkin and Edith Deerman of Palestine; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
