FLORENCE L. SMITH
Columbus-Florence L. Smith, 94, of Columbus, died Saturday, October 17, 1882 at Columbus Manor. Funeral Services ate 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gass-Hney Chapel with the Rev. Wendell Davis officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 14, 1898 in Brooklyn, NY to Charles S. and Mary E. (Meadow)Kirtland. She attended Texas and West Virginia public schools and married H. Clay Smith on Dec. 23, 1915 in Nashville, Tenn. They lived in Nashville until moving to Columbus in 1951. She worked at the Columbus Shirt Factory. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge and belonged to First Methodist Church and various cirles at the church. Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Mares of Columbus; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 6, 1972 and one son. Her granddaughter, Kathleen L. Wathen died in Aurora, Colo., Sunday.
