BEN MCCULLOUGH KIRTLAND
Ben McCullough Kirtland, 48, Frisco dispatcher, died this morning at St. John's hospital following a month's illness. Born and reared in Lawrence, Texas, he was orphaned at * 17 and turned to railroading. For a short time he worked in a telgrapher's office and then became a dispatcher. He had worked for various roads for 27 years before going to the Frisco in 1917. He had worked at Fort Smith, Sapulpa, OK and two years ago came to Springfield. In 1920, he married Lola Grady at Dallas, Texas and sent her through a New York art school. Mrs. Kirtland is also a member of the Springfield Music Club. He was a member of all Masonic bodies including the Shrine, the Elks club and his letter was being held by the First Christian Science church here pending his examination, having been sent from the Sapulpa church where he was a member of the official board. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Alma Lohmeyer chapel and a Masonic service will be given at the grave. Only his wife survives him.
