Death of C.S. Kirtland
C.S. Kirtland died in the * T.P. Hospital at Marshall at 5 o'clock Saturday morning, death resulting from heart trouble. Mr. Kirtland went to Marshall from Lawrence Tuesday of last week for treatment, but his condition was not thought to be serious and news of his death comes as a great shock to his friends here Saturday. His remains were brought here and interred in White Rose Cemetery Sunday afternoon, the funeral service being conducted by the local Masonic Lodge, assisted by the Knights of Pythias, the deceased being a member of both orders. A beautiful floral offering was contributed by the Shriners of Hella Temple of Dallas. Mr. Kirtland held a position as telegraph operator at the station here about seven years, going from here to Lawrence last fall to take a position as station agent there. He was 63 years of age and was a Shriner, a Knight Templar, a Royal Arch Mason and a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. He took an active interest in his lodge work and made many friends during his residence here. He was an honest man and good citizen. The deceased is survived by two sons, B.M. Kirtland of Galveston and George Kirtland, and two daughters, Misses Leah and Florence Kirtland, all of whom attended the funeral. The Chronical joins the many friends of the family in extending sympathy to the bereaved children.
