FRANCIS MARION ATWOOD
Good Man and Prominent Citizen Answers Final Summons Tuesday Morning
Mr. Francis Marion ATWOOD, one of Trigg county's most prominent men, died at his residence, near Wallonia, Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock of a complication of ailments, at the age of seventy-one years.
Mr. ATWOOD had been in failing health for two years or more, and had been confined to his bed for about two months before his death. He was even in his latter years, a fine looking man, and in young manhood, he must have had a splendid nature, as he stood more than six feet high even in his old age. He had a heart that was as kind and sympathetic as a woman's and no one ever went to him, for a favor or act of kindness who returned empty handed. Every man was truly his brother and his charity to humanity was equaled by very few and surpassed by none as far as his ability permitted.
Mr. Atwood was born near Golden Pond, Trigg county, on December 04, 1850, which made him seventy one years old his last birthday.
He was the olest child of John H and Martha FORGUSON ATWOOD, and grew to manhood in the section, but about the time he reached his majority moved over on this side of the Cumberland to reside and has lived within a few miles of Cadiz every since that time.
He was married to Miss Martha A. JONES December 10, 1875, and to that union was born several children of both sexes.
He was a consistent and faithful member of the congregation of Blue Spring Baptist Church, just over the line in Caldwell County, where he had held his membership continuously for more than forty years.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. John T. Cunningham, of Princeton, at the late residence yesterday afternoon,
immediately following which interment took place in the family lot in East End Cemetery in this city.
Mr. Atwood left surviving, his widow, three sons, State Senator H.P. Atwood, Messrs, Julian Atwood, merchant of this city, and Garnett C. Atwood, of near Gracey and three daughters, Miss Nora, who resided with her parents, and Mesdames H.G. Wadlington, of Murray, and J.O. Alexander, of near Wallonia; also two brothers, Messrs John ATWOOD, of
Mayfield, and A.T. ATWOOD, of Hugo, Okla.
