David Thompson was born 23 Oct 1829 in Lawrence Co, Indiana, emigrating to Salt Creek Twp, Jackson Co with his parents and siblings in 1845. He married Barbara Emeline Cross 18 Aug 1847. David purchased 80 acres of land in 1853 and 40 acres in 1856 in Salt Creek Twp, from the U.S. General Land Office. David and Barbara were raising their family of six children on their farm near Houston when David enlisted as a Private in the Union Army, 50th Regiment, Indiana Infantry Volunteers, Co H on 12 Dec 1862. David died of typhoid fever in the Regimental Hospital on 11 April 1863 at Medon, Tennessee. His remains were originally buried in Tennessee and then brought back to Indiana for burial. There is a David A. Thompson gravestone at Thompson Cemetery, Houston, Salt Creek Twp.
