Mr. Braden was born March 27, 1930 in Anderson County. He was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs. Jay retired from the ORNL at the X-10 Plant as a truck driver however, he was a well known farmer. His hobby and greatest enjoyment came from attending to his cattle and spending time with his dog, Patch. Mr. Braden was a Christian, a member of the First Baptist Church in Oliver Springs where he served the congregation as a Deacon, a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Henry Braden and Eliza Maude Lockett Braden; by a grandson, Matthew Hileman, by brothers; O.C. Braden and William "Bill" Braden; and by sisters, Lorene Upchurch, Eula Shears and Viola Bartley.
Jay is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Walls Braden of Oliver Springs; by a son, James H. "Jimmy" Braden of Oliver Springs; by daughters, Regina "Gina" Showalter and husband, Michael, of Oak Ridge and Paulette Morrow and husband, Steven, of Oliver Springs. He has a granddaughter, Laura Hileman, a step-grandson, Caleb Morrow, and a brother, Sam Braden and his wife, Katherine, of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of special friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 1, 2010 between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 pm at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tony Rutherford officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Friday, April 2, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Butler Cemetery in Oliver Springs. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to East Tennessee Children's Hospital, 2018 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37916 at the Developmental Department, Oncology Services non-medical assistance. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
