"OWENBY -- Canada Owenby was born June 17th, 1811 in Kentucky. He moved with his parents to this state in 1819. He was married to Lucinda Walker July 17th, 1834, and to them were born eleven children who all lived to be grown. Five sons and two daughters survive him and were present at the funeral.

He moved to Adair county in the spring of 1838 and settled on a farm two and a half miles southwest of Kirksville, where he lived until his death which occurred at six o'clock a.m. June 23rd, 1894, having lived 83 years and six days. His wife departed this life Sept. 12th, 1878 after which he made his home with his children. He was elected and served as county judge two terms.

Canada Owenby was a man of firm convictions and a believer in the Bible as a revelation from God. He held to the doctrines of the Bible as taught by the Baptists of the Old School. He was a genial, quiet man who won and retained the respect of all who knew him. Long has the writer ever known him, and he was ever the same, meeting you with a genial, bright smile which showed his happiness at meeting you and his good will toward you.

A very large procession of his friends attended the funeral and followed his remains to the grave." The Kirksville Graphic (Kirksville, Missouri), June 29, 1894
