Alice Bailey
Britt - Alice Bailey, 94, a Britt native and longtime educator, died Monday (Aug. 5, 1985) at a St. Paul, Minn., nursing home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Carter Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, with the Rev. Gene Landen of the United Methodist Church, Corwith, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Miss Bailey was born Feb. 22, 1891 to Martha Stratton and Edwin Bailey in Britt. She graduated from Britt High School in 1910. Upon graduation, she accepted a teaching position in Duncan. Miss Bailey taught in rural schools until 1917, when she received her degree from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls.
From 1917-24, Miss Bailey taught in Waterloo. She then taught in St. Paul public schools from 1924-58, where she retired after 48 years as an educator.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and The Eastern Star.
Miss Bailey is survived by several nephews and nieces, including Fern Reibsamen of Britt, and Mrs. Glenn (Martha) Bergan of Williams, Minn.
