Helen's mother died in 1907 when Helen was only 2 years old. Wylie married Martha Loujean 'Jenna' Whorton on June 20, 1909. Jenna raised the three Altman children, Rhuey, Elvis and Helen and they had another child, Ouida Wharton Altman born in 1914.
Helen was an Honor student at Grubbs Vocational College in Arlington before graduating from The University of Texas at Austin in 1928. She taught history at Arlington High School in 1928-29.
Helen met Sol Parks while attending UT. They married in 1929, resided in Houston, Texas and raised four children.

Helen Altman Parks, 91, of Texarkana, died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996.
Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oakhill Cemetery in Goliad under the direction of East Funeral Home of Texarkana.
Mrs. Parks was born Oct. 26, 1904 in Hico, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Goliad.
She is survived by son, Richard A. Parks of Houston; daughters, Martha P. Goodman of Texarkana, Patricia Burbridge of Richardson and Sue Lilley of Lampasas; sister, Ouida Howard of Austin; sister-in-law, Louise Donoghue of Goliad; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Sol Parks, in 1977.
