Ross Bennett was born on January 14, 1850 in York County, South Carolina to Collin and Sarah Bennett. He moved to Texas about 1881 and settled in Crockett, Houston County, Texas with his wife Mary Jane and their children. Several other relatives moved with them from South Carolina. Ross was a farmer and built a home out on the Hall's Bluff Road in Crockett. The farmhouse no longer stands, but Mary Jane's daffodils bloom every Spring. Ross died on September 30, 1912, in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas and was buried in the North Sector of Glenwood Cemetery in Crockett, Houston County, Texas.
