Mrs. Bertha Givens, 80, dies of Brief Illness

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Givens, 80, who died in smith County Hospital Tuesday night following a brief illness, were to be conducted at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Hickory Grove Methodist church. The Rev. Okla Hopper and the Rev. Sammy Cherry were to officiate. Burial will be in the McClellan cemetery.

Mrs. Givens who had lived at Defeated most of her life had lived in Carthage for the last year. She was born and reared at Defeated, a daughter of the late Elmore and gillie Matthews Mundy. Her husband, the late Pete* Givens, died 17 years ago. Mrs. Givens was a member of the Hickory Grove church.

Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Lucy Thomas, Mrs. George Lee, Carthage Rte 1, Mrs. Elsie Craighead, pleasant Shade Rte 2, Mrs. Roy Hale, Comer's Rock, VA, Mrs. Donald Burton, Baltimore, MD, five sons, Calvin, Ben, and Roy Givens, Carthage; Sid Givens, Montville, Archie Givens, Nashville; four sisters, Mrs. Bob Angel, Pleasant shade, Rte 2, Mrs. Norman Angel, Gordonsville, Mrs. Sam Reasonover, Mrs. Myrtle Hayes, Nashville; a brother, Frank Murphy (should be Mundy) Nashville; 28 grandchildren and 21 grt grandchildren. Hackett F.H. was in charge.
