Obit for: Mr. R. G. Parrish, age 82 of Kennard, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Parrish was born August 20, 1924 in Houston County and was a lifetime resident of Kennard. Mr. Parrish was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Mr. Parrish was Past master of the Colthrop Lodge #419. Mr. Parrish was a member of the Lothrop Masonic Lodge #21 A.F. and A.M., the Order of the Eastern Star and Houston County Fire Fighters Association. Mr. Parrish was one of the founders of the Kennard Ratcliff Volunteer Fire Department where he built the first fire engine in Kennard and served as Fire Chief for over 20 years. Mr. Parrish was retired having worked as a blacksmith and welder. Mr. Parrish attended the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Exie Lee Parrish, of Kennard; daughters and son-in-law Beth Carroll, of Dallas, Georgia Gwen Davis and Ray, of Hudson; sons and daughter-in-law Jerry Parrish, of Kennard, Gary Parrish, of Crockett, Kenneth "Bo" Parrish and Linda and Don Parrish, all of Kennard; step-children Debbie Dowdy and Bill, of Kennard, James Hyatt and Donna, of Redtown, Tina Fritzgeald and Jim, of Victoria, Nolan Hyatt of Marbleton, Wyo.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Lillian Kelsey and husband Joe, of Kennard, Bill Wright, of Texas City; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. R. G. Parrish were held Sunday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Hollis officiating. Masonic Graveside services followed in the Enon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kennard Ratcliff Volunteer Fire Department.
